Chapter 1-6 Summary

Chapter one:

In the first chapter of the novel (un)arranged marriage, written by Bali Rai
the reader gets a short insight of mannys family life. He presents his father his mother his two older brothers Ranjit and Harry and his best friend Adrian who he calls Ady. While reading the first chapter it becomes clear that Manny does not feel very well. He does not like their traditions especially arranged marriages, which his brutal father who hits his sons all the time arranges. Manny does not know much about his familymembers, because they do so as well. His mother spends most of her time in the kitchen, and does not talk to him anyway. His father is very strict, and takes care of the indish traditions, which are very important for him. Mannys parents do not think about his school education, because they think that it is a waste of time. All in all Manny is very unhappy with his life in which he has got no privacy.
